Description: A group of Cubans living in different countries, who define themselves as “committed to the homeland and to the invaluable work of the Revolution”, issues a declaration at the end of a meeting in Havana organized by the Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry. The document rejects the US embargo against Cuba, demands the release of five Cubans imprisoned in the US, and expresses support to the new government elected by the National Assembly in Cuba, among several issues.

Description: A group of Cuban exiles living in different countries issues a statement calling for “peace, reconciliation, and concord among all Cubans”. The over 40 signatories reject “hate and mutual resentment” that have prevailed along Cuba’s national history and have led to “violence and fratricide struggles”. The document makes a call to the governments of Cuba and the United States to lift all restrictions against free movement of Cubans. It reaffirms the principle of non-violence, national reconciliation, and calls for an amnesty “which includes all Cubans on all sides of the political and ideological shores”.

A group of Cuban exile and opposition organizations present at a forum on Cuba organized by ODCA (America’s Christian Democratic Organizations), in San José, Costa Rica, issues a document calling for the unity of the Cuban people, and democratization in Cuba. The document rejects the interference of any foreign State in Cuban internal affairs. It also makes an appeal toward national reconciliation and requests the release of all political prisoners, among other issues.

La Declaración de Miami, Unidad Cubana

Description: Unidad Cubana, a group that largely promotes the ideals of South Florida's ''historical exile'' issued the “Declaration from Miami”. The declaration denounces any idea that a succession from Fidel to Raúl Castro would be tolerated by exiles as a green light to negotiate with Raúl's government. The declaration's other proposed legal and constitutional reforms include: That Cuba's democratic 1940 Constitution be re-adopted; that all political prisoners be immediately released; that no Cubans on the island be removed from their current homes; the formation of tribunals to bring to justice military commanders, interior ministry officers and others responsible for the ``Cuban national tragedy''; establishment of an electoral process for municipal, provincial and national elections leading up to a presidential election; rebirth of political parties that favour a multiparty democratic system; and ban of the Communist Party.

Policy Recommendations in a post-Fidel Castro era, Cuban American National Foundation

Description: This set of recommendations is targeted to the Cuban regime, but also implies changes in current US measures towards the island affecting communications among Cubans, and actions by the exile community and the opposition. Among other things, CANF suggests the US government to lift travel restrictions for Cuban Americans; calls on the Cuban regime to hold open elections; recommends the negotiation of direct mail service to Cuba; and “sends a clear and consistent message to those in Cuba that both the military and the present bureaucracy have a role to play in the democratic future of Cuba”. CANF states its opposition to “any intent to evict Cuban families from their present dwellings or land parcels”, and calls on the US government to echo this message.

Micro-Economic Reforms in Cuba: Investing in Cubans, Cuba Study Group

The Proyecto “José Martí” para la Transición, Reunificación y Democratización de Cuba (“Jose Marti” Project for Transition, Reunification, and Democratization in Cuba) supports a peaceful transition to democracy; advocates for the celebration of a national referendum during the post Castro era, and for the creation of a Provisional Board of Government, that would lead to the establishment of a Provisional Council of Government.
