Highlights

Domestic Affairs: The Ladies in White warn of a potential repression against them and the dissident movement. Cuba's gay community celebrate an unprecedented government-backed campaign against homophobia. The Cuban Parliament finishes the restructure of its working commissions.

Economy: Cuban agricultural authorities stress the need for a major overhaul of food production. Some 200 Cuban and Mexican business executives hold meetings in Havana. Cuban trade delegations visit India and Russia. Cuban authorities report the country’s overall trend of an aging population. Brazil’s Foreign Minister says that his country wants to be Cuba’s number-one partner.

Exile Community: The Cuban American National Foundation organizes a lunch with hopeful Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. 

Foreign Affairs: Representatives from the Cuban and Canadian Foreign ministries hold official talks in Ottawa. Fidel Castro strongly criticizes the European Union for its stance during the 5th EU-LAC Summit. Bolivian President. Canadian Foreign Minister issues a statement in recognition of May 21st as the Day of Solidarity with the Cuban People. Evo Morales holds meetings with Fidel and Raul Castro. Venezuelan Foreign Minister holds official conversations in Havana.

Security: Cuban President Raul Castro leads the military ceremony of change of command at the Central Army. 

US-Cuba Relations: US President George W. Bush marks the Day of Solidarity with the Cuban People. Cuba challenges the US to respond to accusations that its top diplomat on the island passed funds to dissidents. Fidel Castro says Barack Obama's plan towards Cuba will cause hunger and suffering on the island.
