Terrorism
April 10: Two Salvadorans sentenced to death in Cuba nine years ago convicted of terrorism have “high hopes” that their sentence could be commuted to 30 years in prison, said a Colombian priest who gave them spiritual support this Wednesday in Havana. “They feel very hopeful, they are not down, but in good spirits”, said priest Noel Mojica to journalists. Salvadorans Ernesto Cruz León, 37, and Otto Rodríguez Llerena, 50, were sentenced in separate trials in 1999 for planting bombs in Havana and Varadero hotels in the summer of 1997, which killed an Italian tourist.
