Center for Cuban Studies
Location: New York, US
Description: Founded in 1972 by a group of scholars, writers, artists and other professionals, the Center for Cuban Studies works towards normalizing relations between the United States and Cuba. Its activities include educating the public about Cuba and organizing tours to Cuba. It produces Cuba UPDATE, a quarterly magazine, with emphasis on US-Cuba relations. The web site is comprised mainly of information about the organization.

Cuba Project, Bildner Center for Western Hemisphere Studies

Description: The Bildner Center’s Cuba Project is a collaborative effort to study changes in Cuban politics, economics, culture, and society. It focuses on developments in Cuba in an international context. The web site provides information on its seminars and events, conferences, publications and links. Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute, Tulane University

Description: Established in 1997 to promote academic and cultural exchange between Cuba and the United States. The Institute also organizes an annual summer study session in Cuba. In addition to containing information about the institute, the web site contains web links and an extensive bibliography on Cuba.

Cuban Research Institute, Florida International University
Location: Miami, US
Description: Founded in 1991, the CRI supports research and academic programs on Cuban and Cuban American issues. It draws upon the Cuba-related expertise of more than 30 FIU faculty. Since its foundation, the CRI has maintained a program of academic exchange and research collaboration with Cuban scholars, supporting trips to and from Cuba by FIU faculty and students and colleagues on the island. The CRI is the editorial office of the academic journal, Cuban Studies/Estudios Cubanos. The web site includes a description of the CRI’s research and academic programs, as well as other activities, including periodic events and workshops, and a Conference on Cuban and Cuban American Studies, held every 18 months. It also contains the Díaz de Ayala Encyclopedic Discography of Cuban Music. The project CubaInfo, http://cubainfo.fiu.edu/, provides information on Cuba, the Cuban American community and the section “Ask the Expert”, which allows visitors to send questions on Cuba to FIU professors.

David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University

Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies (ICCAS), University of Miami

Description: The ICCAS is an academic centre dedicated to the study of Cuban and Cuban-American topics. In addition to containing information about the program and various events it sponsors, the web site offers extensive information, in English and in Spanish, such as research papers and data, about a wide range of Cuba issues. It contains various sections, including: the Cuba Transition Project, which studies the Cuban transition and makes recommendations for the reconstruction of the island; the Bacardi House, an interactive centre that focuses on history and culture; Cuba Online, a database that contains business, political, economic, political and demographic information on Cuba; a database of legal texts; a database of foreign investment on the island; treaties and accords; and organizational charts.

Instituto de Estudios Cubanos (IEC)

Description: The IEC promotes dialogue among Cuban intellectuals with different points of view on the fundamental problems facing the island and its diaspora. It hosts a yearly conference. International Agricultural Trade and Development Center, University of Florida

Description: The Center produces economic analyses of Cuba’s agricultural sector and assessment of impacts and opportunities for the state of Florida and US agriculture in general in the event of a normalization of relations between the US and Cuba. Description: The largest professional Association for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America. It includes a section on Cuba. The Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE)
Location: Maryland, US
Description: Established in 1990, the ASCE is dedicated to the broad study of the Cuban economy, with particular emphasis on the financial, economic, social, legal and environmental aspects of Cuba's process of transition. Activities include a lecture series, joint forums at the Brookings Institution with the Cuban Research Institute, an annual conference, a clippings service, and various publications, including a newsletter, occasional papers and special studies, and proceedings from ASCE’s annual conference. The Center for Defense Information

Description: The CDI is a research organization that monitors military and foreign policy affairs throughout the world. It houses a US-Cuba Cooperative Security Program that organizes a yearly meeting between a delegation of U.S. military experts and Cuban military and political officials in Havana to explore ways the two countries might cooperate on regional security concerns. This web site includes information about the issues covered during these meetings.

The Social Science and Research Council
